Week 8 Reflection

The Smith's are traveling to South Carolina with the Jones.  At one point the two families get seperated.  The Smith's were 20 miles ahead of the Jones.  If the Jones are traveling at 60 mph and the Smiths are traveling at 50 mph, how long will it take the Jones to catch up.  EXPLAIN

  1. It would take the Jones family 2 hours. They are 20 miles behind but they are going 10 miles per hour faster than the Smith family so 20 divided by 10 is 2.

  2. The answer is 2 hours because if they are 20 miles behind but go at the rate of 10 mph faster than the Smiths family. So I just divided 20 by 10 and I got 2.

  3. the jones family would have to drive two hours before reachin the smiths because you would divide 20 by 10 to get 2

  4. I agree. The Jones are traveling at 60mph, and the Smiths are traveling at 50mph. 60-50=10mph
The Smiths are 20 miles behind the Jones.
20/10= 2 hr to catch up to them.

  6. I agree with everyone because the smiths are traveling at 50mph. The jones are traveling at 60mph the difference is 10mph. So you get 20 and divide it by 10 and you get 2. So the smiths would take them 2 hours to catch up with the jones.

  7. I agree with everyone who said that it would take the Jones 2 hours to reach up with the Smiths. I found this out by multiplying 50mph. by 2 then adding 20mph for the Smiths. I did the same thing to the Jones except that i multiplied 60mph by 2. I got 120mph for the Smith and 120mph from the Jones. So it would take the Jones 2 hours to catch up with the Smiths. Also this week in class, we learned about ax^2 + bx + c
