You spend $46 on supplies to make wooden ornaments and okan to sell the ornaments for $8.50 each. What are the possible numbers of ornaments that you can sell in order for your profit to be positive? Explain how you got your answer!
46/8.50=5 ornaments and okan you could sell. I got my answer by dividing.
ReplyDelete8.5 x 5 = 42.5 That is the most money you can spend on supplies to make wooden ornaments. You would only make 5 ornaments with that amount of money. There are no possible ways to get a positive profit you can only have a negative profit or save money. I got this answer by multiplying the amount the ornaments are being sold by and a number that would make the product equal are less than 46
ReplyDelete46/8.5=5.So he can only buy up to 5 ornaments. He will not have enough money if he tries to buy 6 ornaments. That is how many ornaments I can sell, :)
ReplyDeleteI disagree with you 3, Nikola, Harmoni, and Daivon. I disagree because you are selling the ornaments, not buying them, it told us that you spent $46 on supplies to make the ornament, and that you was going to sell each ornament for $8.50. The answer should be x > 5.4 (x > 5 if rounded to the nearest whole number) where x stands for the number of ornaments sold. I got this from the inequality 8.5x > 46. When i divided each side by 8.5, I got x > 5.4 (x > 5 rounded to nearest whole). It also depends on how much ornaments you made from the $46 that you spend on the supplies. If you made more then 5, then you will have a positive profit. x > 5.4 (x > 5)

DeleteIt should be spent on the end of my reply not spend.
Deletei agree with vang lor because Xx8.50<46 and if you are trying to make a profit you would want to sell more than you spent to buy the supplies soooo you would have to use the equation Xx8.50>46 so in order to have more than $46 afer making and selling the ornaments for $8.50you would have to sell at least 6 ornaments to make a profit 6 x $8.50 > $46 soooooo.... it would be $51>$46 that means the profit would be ...$5
DeleteI agree with vang because i only have 46 dollars to spend now. But I sell the ornaments for 8.50 each so what I do next is divide and you would get 5.4 so if you sell anymore than 5 then you will make a profit.
DeleteI mean comment not reply................
ReplyDeleteI agree with Vang. I agree because from the inequality 8.5x > 46 you would divide each side by 8.5 and once you do this you get x > 5.4. So in the end if you sold more than 5, then you will have a positive profit!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Vang because if you put the problem into a inequality it would look like this: 8.5x > 46. if you divide 8.5 to both sides then it would be 5.4 put it into the inequality it would be: x > 5.4. So if you sold more than 5 you would make profit.
ReplyDelete8.5 X would have to be greater than 46 in order to make a profit
ReplyDeleteX= number of ornaments you make(any whole number over 5)
8.5 = price of the ornament.
46 = cost of supplies.
8.50x > 46
Leah-I agree with David, who is agreeing with Vang.
ReplyDeleteSince the problem should be an inequality, it should be
8.5x>46/8.5 (on both sides)
x>5.4
Selling more than 5 will give you a possible profit.
I also agree. you could put it in an equation but that would be harder to do. since you would have to solve 46x+8.50y and find what x and y could be. it is much easier to just solve 8.5x>46.just divide 8.5 from both side and you get 5.4.
ReplyDeleteI agree with leja and David. First you put 46X_>8.50. Divide and ... 5.4.
DeleteSimple, but I think its 5.3.
I agree with David case it much easy to do 46/8.50 you get 5. It close to the 5.4 case if you do 46x+8.50y where if you do the inequality you well get 5.4 you digging your own grave right there you just wast time on that and than if you round it you get 5 which is fairly close to 5.4.
DeleteFirst you would have to make an inequality to match the story. So what I did was made an inequality to do so. The inequality should look like x(8.50)greater than 46. So that the person selling ornaments could make a profit. X is greater than 5.4, so he would have to sell more than 5 to make a profit.
Deletei agree with david
Deletebecause in order to get the positive profit you have to make 46 plus more so you divide 46 by 8.50 giving you 5.4 whch is your postitive profit.
In order to find out how many ornaments he can buy is to divide 46 by 8.50 which is 5. So he can only buy up to 5 ornaments. He won't be able to buy more.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with you because, as Vang said, you are SELLING them, not buying them. So I agree with almost everyone's answer. Which is 8.50x > 46. You just divide both sides by 8.50 and you get 5.4, rounded to 5.
Delete46/8.50 which is five so he can only buy five ornaments.
